Ground-Up Rebuild: Claude Drafting Engine, True Redaction & Real Citation Verification

July 19, 2026

Real Citation Verification

Every citation in every draft is programmatically checked against CourtListener's database of 18+ million published citations. Failed citations are bracketed in the draft before you ever see it, and every export includes a Citation Verification Report with source links.

True Redaction, Verified

Redacted pages are rebuilt so the underlying text is destroyed — not just covered. An automated extraction check then proves no flagged string survives, and your document never leaves your browser as a file.

Search-First Motion Library — Doubled

Type a name, statute, or nickname ('MSJ', '1538.5', 'three strikes') to find any of roughly 400 motions across all 50 states — or draft any custom motion with the same guardrails and verification.

Full changelog

  • Migrated the drafting engine to Anthropic Claude (Sonnet 5) with the strongest available anti-hallucination instruction set; zero-invention rules with bracketed [INSERT] placeholders preserved from v3.
  • Added programmatic citation verification via the CourtListener Citation Lookup API — unverifiable citations are automatically replaced with [VERIFY CITATION] flags in the draft.
  • Added a Citation Verification Report appendix to every DOCX export, listing each citation's status with clickable CourtListener source links and a verification timestamp.
  • Rebuilt redaction as a single engine: instant pattern scan, AI contextual detection for text pages, and vision-based detection for scanned pages — processed page-by-page with live progress and no practical file size limit.
  • Redaction burn-in now rasterizes affected pages, permanently destroying the text layer (copy-paste extraction returns nothing); untouched pages keep their original quality.
  • Added an automated post-redaction extraction check with an on-screen 'Extraction-Verified' badge.
  • Documents for redaction are processed in your browser — the file itself is never uploaded to our servers.
  • Label-anchored birthdate detection: any digit string adjacent to a DOB label is flagged in any format, including packed police-report formats like DOB:19940605.
  • Expanded the motion library from ~190 to ~400 motions: deeper California coverage (Marsden, Faretta, Franks, plea withdrawal, anti-SLAPP, terminating sanctions, move-away and more), real state-specific vehicles for TX/FL/NY/IL/PA/OH, and 44 motions for every other state.
  • New search-first motion selector with aliases for statutes and nicknames, keyboard navigation, and jurisdiction badges.
  • Custom motions: any motion you search for can be drafted directly — the engine identifies the correct procedural vehicle and governing standard for your jurisdiction, subject to the same citation verification.
  • Jurisdiction-aware court captions in DOCX exports (correct court name, county line, and party conventions per state and federal district).
  • County-specific procedural rules and legal standards are now injected into the drafting engine, not just displayed.
  • Attorney bar-number lookup returns clean name/address/phone and warns when a license status is not Active.
  • Server-side subscription enforcement on every AI feature, with refund/chargeback access revocation.
  • Rebuilt light and dark themes with a consistent palette; theme now follows your system setting by default.
  • Privacy overhaul: citation checks send only citation strings, AI providers run on commercial no-training terms, and the privacy policy now documents exactly which services touch your data.
Earlier releases (v3.x) predate the v4 platform rebuild and have been archived.
